Born in Singapore in the late 60's, Nicola first moved to the Island when she was 4.

She was bought up in Godshill, and was inspired to paint from an early age.

After nursing training at U.C.H London, she studied millinery at The London College of Fashion.

In 1994, Nicola began as an artist in Godshill largely selling Island views.

In 2001, she attended The College of Psychic Studies in South Kensington to understand more about meditation and psychic art. At this time, Nicola began painting to music and found it to have a Zen-like meditative effect.

Nicola, a self taught artist, is inspired by life, her love of nature, music, colour and spiritual understanding.

Her work encompasses a wide range of subject matter/styles, reflecting a determination to evolve through a continuous   process of change.

Nicola is trying to set up a spiritual retreat in a beautiful old church on the island where she can offer art therapy and meditation. Nicola wrote about this on her blog site:

"We have two sides to our brain- right and left. The left does all the analytical, the right the creative.Without stimulating the two, we become unbalanced. The other thing that creativity does, is it stimulates the right side of the brain, which enhances our connection spiritually.

This connection we all have as children, but the chaos and left sidedness of the western world, soon ensures that it is stamped out. With more importance placed on art in shools, I believe that less people in their adult life would suffer with depression.

When painting, it is like meditating without trying. It essentially gives the brain a rest, and allows it to be 'some place else'.This not only gives a break from the chaos of the world, but it gives us a sense of fulfilment, relaxation and joy."

Please read her blog and consider supporting her work, as this is exactly the type of project the Hearthfire is intended to highlight.
